Biomaterials Workshop
Series of workshops lectured at Berlin Textile Coop, the bioplastics workshop explores techniques and materials for creating sustainable, experimental bioplastics. The workshop presents recipes for bioplastic from carrageenan algae, biofoam from agar agar, and bioyarn from alginate. Participants experiment with textures, incorporate other organic materials and natural dyes, and have the opportunity to use the open-source biofibers desktop spinning machine—adapted to extrude alginate-based yarn directly into a calcium chloride bath for cross-linking—to create fine bioyarn.
